Woodland Fairy Cake

There are times when one cake in particular really gets me excited. And this month, it was this cake. All of the fairies, gnomes, animals and mushrooms are made of gum paste. Cake is the tree stump, covered with fondant and hand painted. The grass is dyed and baked coconut.

Rocker Baby Shower Cake

My girlfriend Chelsie is having a baby boy in October, so the other night we all got together to celebrate.  I made this little 9" round cake.  The theme was rock star because we all stayed up way too late play rock band.  The sides are piano keys with a little skull and cross bones onsie on top.

30th Birthday Cake

My sister Katie turned 30 this past week and we really went through a million different cake ideas before we decided to make a cake of all the things that she loves.  So featured in the center is her, complete with green glasses holding a Starbucks latte with the straw.  Tyler and Bradley can also be found on the cake, along with Oreo's, Twilight book, a sewing machine, camera and lots more.  It was so fun making this cake, and I love how colorful it turned out.

Asher's Monster Cake

My friend's little boy Asher loves everything monsters and had a themed party to match.  This two tiered cake was so much fun to make.  I loved how cute the green monster is at the bottom.  And check out the yellow crocs on the gumpaste Asher.  Too fun.

Tangled Cake

Well its finally complete.  Overall I think its super cute.  I wanted to add more detail but the boys hardly had naps today and we are all recovering from the fair, legoland and all the other adventures summer brings.  Tomorrow when its assembled properly I am going to make the hair from the tower connect to the lettering.

A cake a day keeps the doctor away

I have been making so many cakes lately I haven't even had the time to post pictures.  I have made 3 cakes alone this week and am in the process of making 2 for this weekend and 2 for the following weekend.   Here are some cakes from this past week.

A going away cake for my friend Alix and her little boy Cale.

My first miniature cake.  Needs some work, but cute nonetheless.

Cincinatti Reds birthday cake for Cale.

Another Tangled Sneak Peak

I don't know what it is about this cake that has totally consumed me.  But I have neglected all responsibilities today including showering to construct the Tangled tower.  It is still missing Rapunzel from the window and some other details but I had to share it because I am so excited.  The tower stands a little over 2 feet, its actually 2 Pringles cans, and peanut can and a styrofoam cone, covered with Rice Krispy treat.  And then of course covered in fondant.  The tower will ulitmately be placed on a cake along with Maximus and Pascal.

Tangled Sneak Peak

I was so excited to make a Tangled cake for one of Jack's best friends, but she changed her mind and wanted Barbie instead.  So when Jamie asked me to make Skyler a Tangled cake for her birthday I jumped on the idea.  Tonight I really wanted to start but didn't have enough materials to tackle the tower so I made Maximus and Pascal.  I think they came out so cute, and can't wait to continue with Rapunzel and the frying pan.  LOL

Maximus is coming out of a bush with Pascal taking charge on top.

Chef Cake

Tonight is my last night of class and we are having a potluck to celebrate.  I knew I had to make a cake to share but have been wracking by brain trying to come up with a design.  I found someone that essentially did this same cake but I changed it around to fit the things from my class.  The chef is a replica of our instructor, Chef Joe, who always plays a fake violin when people tell sob stories to get out of work.  I added a chicken because I swear all we cooked was chicken and of course carrots which I cut enough of to last me a life time.

Word World Cake

My sons best friend is turning 4 tomorrow and we stayed up tonight making him a World Word cake.  Its a super cute show from PBS Kids where everything is actually made up from the letters in their name or word.  I have been wanting to try a 3-D tree off the side of the cake like this, and am pleased with how this one turned out.  With some experimenting I want to try and make a more detailed one for the cake I am planning for next years cake show.

Birthday Season is Here

This week I have made two birthday cakes for my friends little girls.  I love decorating cakes for little girls because of all the sprinkles and lustre dust.  Here is a Disney princess castle for today, and a Little Mermaid cake from this past week.

UP Cake

I had a great time this weekend competing in the San Diego Cake Show in La Jolla.  There were so many amazing entries and I was shocked to take home first place for amateur tiered fondant cakes.  Here are some pictures of this amazing event.

San Diego Cake Show Sneak Peak

I have a sneak peak at the cake I am entering this weekend at the San Diego Cake Show in La Jolla.  I am making a two tiered cake based around the Disney Pixar movie UP.  Here is the top of the cake.  I have to tweak a few things with the Chimeny and still make the hose, but other than that I think its almost done.  It only took 25 hours...but very worth it to see it finished.

It's a Boy Cupcake Spread

My friend had her baby last week and it was a boy!  They named him Oliver (how cute) and her Mom had me make her these as a suprise.  We also included a special cake for big brother.
